transmission shudder

2001 saab 9-5 se, 192K mi. When I accelerate from standing stop with transmission in drive, there is a brief shudder before the gear is engaged. No slippage at higher gears. Accelerating very slowly or starting in D3 helps. Transmission fluid level and appearance good. Concerned about a worn 1st gear although have not had it to mechanic yet. Any experience out there with similar problem would be a big help. Thanks.
