Does it shift with the engine off?

If yes then someone may have blew up the clutch. In this case you still should be able to shift with the engine off. You may even be able to shift into reverse at idle and stall the engine (no synchromesh in reverse).

I imaging a broken key interlock would be obvious as the shifter lever would barely move at all.

Are the shifter cables looking normal?

BTW, what is the purpose of the SAABnet link? Which is broken anyway.
