Car is a 2006 SC, approx. 120K miles. I replaced the 'new style' fuel pump and its integrated lines, but the new one is not functioning properly. Fuel pump primes and runs, but I cannot get more that about 8-10 PSI at the injector rail. (see link below - I checked air, fuel, spark and it is fuel)
Following a thread on this BB between Savary and Swedecar, I fitted a fuel pressure gauge onto the fuel rail Schrader valve. I pressurized the fuel supply line fitting on the rail (carefully - no battery in car) w compressed air at about 55-55 PSI, raising to that pressure slowly. FPR worked properly and released pressure at about 43 PSI (3 bar). After that, the fuel and air gurgled into the gas tank.
So I think that I have a problem with the brand new Walbro pump. It supplies fuel, but not at high enough pressure. Full disclosure is that it is the pump assembly for NG9-3 (JustinHiFi posted on using this in a 9-5 wagon with success).
Question? If the lines are not pinched (they are free to move), is there anything about installing the "new style" fuel pump (whole pump and lines) that could cause a good pump to deliver on quarter of the pressure it should ? I can't mix up the line fittings like on the older style, because they are different diameters. I tried to get the pump rotationally aligned just like the old one was - could be off a few degrees because the lock ring wants to make it rotate as it's turned. I think that I properly reconnected the in-tank emission line. Since it's an assembly, there was no read cap for me to forget to remove.
I'm asking for help to decide whether I will waste time reinstalling the same pump when I should be getting another new pump. Either way it seems likely I will end up dropping the tank again. =(
Has anyone done an insert on the 'new style' fuel pumps? I have the old assembly out and could readily do that - IF I knew the eEuro Bosch insert would directly fit. I know a shop would not do this because of labor costs and possible comebacks, but . . . .
Thanks in advance !
