random coolant dump? Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Fri, 14 Oct 2016 06:47:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A few days ago, our 2004 9-5 dumped a puddle of coolant under the waterpump area. The car had been driven a relatively long distance the 2 days prior (300 miles or so total to and from) arriving back in the evening and then sitting for 36 hours during which the temperature dropped to freezing both nights and cool the day it sat (had been warm prior). Coolant tank was mostly empty and refill notice appeared on startup... Refilled, drove a bit, watched for leakage or coolant loss... nothing. It's been several days, and the coolant level is still high (not sure if it is identical, but it is at least very close)...
Waterpump is about a year or 2 old (did belts/tensioner/pulleys at the same time)...
Seems a bit unusual. Best I can guess is differential thermal contraction rates at a seal when the engine cooled down caused a temporary leak which now is good. Strange though as we had never seen this before.
any thoughts?
