Parasitic draw - fuse 17 related Posted by Navid [Email] (#2069) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Navid) on Tue, 15 Nov 2016 19:59:03 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Hi all, I have a strange issue with my car. Need diagnostic tips.
I have a draw - most notably after running the car which is about 0.35a from fuse 17 (there is also another 0.3a from somewhere else). Abnormal draw with car off is about 0.65a. When I pull fuse 17 it goes from 0.65a to 0.3a. This 0.4a is the same after waiting 20 minutes.
Other tidbits
- Sometimes the draw after driving is really really high like 2-3a. But lately I haven't seen this.
- i am doing this on a 03 linear with a charged battery (it holds charge if you let it sit unplugged for days)
- if I unplug the battery and replug the battery, often the draw goes down to 0.1a (after letting car settle down). Then, if i drive the car and come back the full 0.4 drain will be there.
- my car won't go to Lock mode in the ignition, just Off (the key cylinder is messed up - been like this for a while)
- often my key stops working for lock/unlock from the key fob (03' linear), this was perplexing me but it looks like if press the unlock button while key in On position it will start working again (I've put in a new battery)
- Alternator is putting out 13.8-13.9V which seems fine (when idling with highbeams and some other load)
Main Question
Given that fuse 17 controls so much how do I narrow down on this circuit effectively? (controls: instrument cluster, power window main, door lamp, room lamp, data link connector, BCM, door warning switch, IMS control module, Front/Rear A/C control mod, Foot lamp, Map lamp, Electro chromic mirror). I don't see anything obviously on in the car.
