As a cheaptech tip you can replace them, but my pulleys get checked, cleaned and regreased, the factory ones that come on the vehicle have removeable seals and can be readily cleaned and regreased.
I would think if anything that the long belt would put less stress on any individual component, I've seen some cars where the belt design puts far more stress on the alternator bearing which is pretty robust anyways, imo the Saab serp belt design seems pretty solid.
