Well, two mechanics now believe my 03 Linear wagon with just 102k miles needs a head gasket. It's got all the symptoms, and there's coolant in the #3 cylinder. I haven't overheated the car, so I guess it's just slowly gotten worse over the year I've owned the car. No good answers from either mechanic about what caused it. One says it's unusual, the other says it happens....
Anyway it's going through a good bit of coolant now, and I've decided to get it fixed and keep the car. However, it is now going to be purely a back up (and probably snow and hauling) car, so I don't want to put $3k+ into it, if I can help it.
Suggestions on what else ought to be done at the same time, without going overboard?
There's some chain noise on startup outside on a cold morning, so I'll have them inspect the chain and the guides, rollers, etc. The timing cover is leaking, too, but I don't see the value in pulling the engine for that.
It's got the original Linear turbo, and an Aero spec upgrade was on my list, but I'm thinking I'll just let it go for now, since it won't be a daily driver.
Thanks in advance!
