Agree with everything fdw201 said (and our V6s are the same year)
-- and will add just a couple of points
Water pumps -- please don't misunderstand my point -- I do not believe that they are any more prone to failure than they are for the 4 cyl. What I attempted to say is that the labor to access the timing system and water pump is the same. Therefore, many V6 owners preemptively replace the water pump at the time of the timing service (in most cases every other time, a 120K interval), for essentially the cost of the part. In fact, I just did the opposite. My next timing service would have been around 300K, but my water pump started leaking pretty badly a week or two ago. So, when I had the pump replaced, I had the timing done as well (at 280K), for essentially the cost of the belt/tensioner kit.
Regarding the auxiliary pump -- mine is still original (even the hoses to it), so IMHO its something to be aware of, but not obsess on. (side note while not something I would ever have optioned in, it was a neat feature on February mornings when I'd be waiting outside the pool at 5:30 am to run my son to the train to school in the Bronx from swim practice in Westchester.)
I have replaced my CAT -- may have forgotten to mention it -- but to put it in perspective, that was at 235K miles and 12 years of ownership. Both DICs failed on the highway (they were essentially original as well), and the raw fuel took the cat out as I tried to limp it somewhere. Likely would have saved the cat had I just shut down and had it towed right away. In any case, I can't complain - other than maybe preemptively changing the DICs after 200K might have been smart.
Good luck!
