... is another man's simple screw up.
My 2000 Aero was experiencing a serious oil leak and bad case of RGIS (Rubber Glove Inflation Syndrome). The PCV was new, but the engine did have a history of sludge many years ago (this was a saab rescue). so I chalked it up to engine wear induced blow by figuring that it's sludgy past was catching up with it.
Expecting that the car was near death I began the grieving process. I made it to the "bargaining" stage, you know:
- if this car lives I promise to always replace the thermostat and temp sensor as a pair!
- if this car lives I promise to set the ride height properly!
- if this car lives I promise to send that SID out to BBA Reman!
Anyway it was then that I discovered that I had installed the white check valve (that sits in front of the TB) *backwards*. Thanks to a moments inattention my PCV system was pressurizing the crankcase instead of evacuating it.
Fixing that resulted an immediate relief of RGIS and the oil leak!
Now to replace that thermostat ... I'll save $20 and 10 minutes by leaving that old sensor in there ....
