Thank you all for the posts. I looked at getting the individual sanding sheets, rubbing compound, etc. and in the end, it cost more than one of the restoration kits - but would consider doing it depending on the reviews for various kits. I ended up getting a 3M kit, # 39008. I was a little skeptical at first since some of the sand paper grit was not the same (e.g. more coarse) as others had posted, but the 13K+ good reviews on Amazon made me decide to go with it. It was one of the few kits that has a disk for a drill, which I liked.
I was very pleased with the results!! I spent a lot of time sanding with the finest grit disks and rubbing compound to make sure there were no perceptible scratches. I used the drill on very low speed and did the fine sanding with a touch of water, even thought the directions only mentioned it for the 3000 grit disk, and not the 800 grit disks.
The lenses are very clear, almost like new.
