Hi Slug.
I did and I did not !?! RockAuto.com listed a "new" and "Denso" starter 98.00 that I secured,
and when examining the Rock unit.. it was new, same shape and orientation YET.. I did NOT feel nor did box or tags say anything about Denso. IT did come with a Built test sheet with all quality test values and measurements, a page and a half worth. essentially it was " proofed New in a scientific manufactures lab equipment. the end casing were bit sand cast looking rather than mold cast that looks smooth.
Denso has an 1"x2" manufacture's plate, and where that was riveted on Denso, the rock auto did not.
the main permanent body housing was of a slightly larger diameter. Solenoid observed as different.
were any of these deal breakers? No. It looked new, benched fine and in car spins like crazy.
advantages: New purchase means no core return fee and no core return shipping costs or travel to UPS
store.
Install went well, just remove intake manifold to block tube support bracket.
Post Mortem on " original" starter in a week or so.
take care Slug, Thanks for inquiry
