These were both due to freezing water in the gas. At no time did I blame the car manufacturer or the person who tried in vain to start the car. A fuel pump fails almost immediately when this condition occurs. Noone can salvage it. One car was a Saab the other a Dodge by the way. Hope you saved the fuel pump and a sample of the gas for small claims court. I also would not blame your wife. It is a good practice to keep fuel level above half in the winter but mine both failed despite following this practice.
