I don't exactly match the criteria of your question, but I thought I'd share my impressions. Over the last year I "aerized" the ride of my '99 LPT. First the Aero sway bars last fall, then 17" wheels in March, and finally last month came the springs and dampers, which I've been told were the current production Aero components.
Since I introduced the changes gradually, I did not have to face an abrupt change of the whole package, and had plenty of time to adjust to the new handling. Neither me nor my wife ever found this setup uncomfortable or harsh. It feels just right now, very composed and confident.
About a week ago I had a chance to drive my friend's '99 LPT with original suspension and 16" tires. Boy, I don't want to go back to THAT ;). It felt so... Buick-ish ;). I know that newer Linears and Arcs should feel tighter, but I would still prefer an Aero.
If you're tight on money and want to pick up an Arc for that reason (the price difference is about $10000 CAD here in Canada), you can ask your dealer to install a factory roadholding kit, which would bring your ride to the Aero level (sans the wheels). I suppose it should be possible to negotiate this into the purchase agreement.
