When I did my 9³'s first ATF change at 35k mi, the original fluid was very dirty, already smelled burned & was turning brown. I've linked to my observations (& follow-up comments) below. If you're staying with conventional ATF, I'd expect the same results you saw this time every 30k mi.
I agree with Razl & suggest a single changing of ATF every 10k mi to regularly get new additives in & old crud out. Especially if you continue using dino ATF. But for these trannies, I think we're all better off using syn ATF. After three changes with syn, once-every-30k-mi changes shouldn't show nearly the levels of contamination we've all been seeing. (And to think Saab recommends only a SINGLE dino drain-&-fill every 60k mi!)
As for Roger's cabin air filter observations, I can say that my 9³'s cabin filter was literally black with debris after 20k mi of use. I'm not familiar with the 9-5's filter size or change interval, but I'd imagine it looks the same at the recommended changing time.
