I don't know if it is "common" for saab 16v motors to leak oil at the head gasket (bottom right corner under the distributor), buy my '85 SPG and my neighbors 90 something 900 both leak there. Mine has slowly seeped oil form this spot since I bought it 45,000 miles ago. No problems. And if you have a really shot head gasket, you will either have white smoke comming out of the tail pipe, oil in the coolant, coolant in the oil, or visible bubbling in the coolant reservoir. If you just have a slow outside leak, I would save your money for now. Like the others said, first replace your valve cover gasket. And I would replace the distributor gasket o-ring as well. There are lots of other places to leak such as rear seal, front seal, seals on the transmission, etc. Make sure they know where the oil is comming from before they fix the most expensive gasket they can charge you for.

My other advice is to start learning how to fix this thing yourself. Saabs are high maintainence cars, and if you plan on paying someone to fix every little thing, you're going to go broke. Buy a shop manual and get your hands dirty. Or you might want to consider a Japanese car. I'm not trying to sound like a pr+%k, but seriously, its getting old and its going to need more frequent attention.
