I agree with the post regarding the leak at the front right corner below the distributor. All the 16V cars leak here. I rectified this on an engine I recently put a chain in (from my incinerated 87S). The leak is actually at the rear plate where it mates to the block behind the clutch. Once it penetrates the gasket, it makes its way to the light of day by following a passage that brings it out at the block/head interface. I have never seen one of these leaks progress to the flow rate you describe. My bet would be that your crank seal at the timing end is the real culprit in the sudden loss with the ages-old end plate leak disguising it to the overly casual observer. Degrease the engine like JohnB says and I think you'll see drips off the back of the engine long before oil emanating from the front is blown that far back.
