Yup, my neighbors look out their windows when I'm racing to get the suds off the car and dried before it starts icing. Starting with hot water for the suds helps a little.
For your question on the shocks, I also have an 88'SPG. I think most of the harshness comes from the springs, not the shocks. Years ago I replaced the shocks with Boge, and felt a little help. This past year I replaced the springs with Intrax and shocks with Koni and got a smoother ride with faster turn in, less sway. Don't get me wrong, still very firm but the whole interior doesn't feel like it is getting slammed over the imperfections in the road.
