Regarding reverse - if you come to a DEAD stop and then go into reverse, there will be no grind. If necessary go into another gear before reverse. Viola! No more reverse grinding.
Regarding first - shift back into first at about .5 to 1 mph. It will go right in. If you are at a toll both and it wont go into first, let the clutch out for a second, push it back in and then go into first. This will help you line up teeth and get it into first. Much better this way than forcing it in my opinion.
I too run Redline and have 95K miles on my '93 900TC. I'm shooting for 225K on this trannny (original).
Oh and make sure your fluid level is still correct.
Put your car in neutral, then remove the three torx screws and you can pull the shifter out. I don't think you can do anything with it except maybe buy a short shift kit from GM or others.
Good luck,
Mike
