I just replaced mine on my 94 CE vert. I went to the townsendimports.com site and he said that if the tensioner gap was over 11 mm to replace the chain.
See his site for how to check the gap.
My gap was 13 mm and since I was doing a head gasket anyways, I went ahead and got a new masterlink chain from eeuroparts.com.
However, I had to go to a motorcycle shop to get a chainbreaker and that was $100 right there.
I went through the sweat-bead inducing process (at least for me) of breaking the old chain, attaching it to the new chain and threading it around the crankshaft with me turning the flywheel by hand while my friend held tension on the chain, and then connecting the new chain to itself.
The new chain was 4 mm shorter than the old one and the new gap is 4mm less now. Its 9 mm. I don't know if the whole process was worth it.
