All this time I was being too tender with it eh? I was scared if I twisted to much I'd break something else.. I tried to just yank the whole assembly (including the plastic undercarriage) but the whole shift linkage felt like it would've cracked had i tried that.. I guess the spring I'm referring to is the
resistance you feel when turning the metal housing to get at those undercarriage screws.. one of those pages in the old service manual on Saabpics referred to that as a spring that could be unhooked, allowing BOTH the plastic and metal assemblies to be removed from the linkage.. but what it sounds like is I don't NEED to remeove the whole thing.. just twist to get at those effing underside screws.

Alrighty I'll go put some elbow grease into it.. in the meantime.. I'll be looking for a new ignition assembly. It sound's like my lock cylinder is toast, anyway.

Now, if I go find another assembly, with a different key, I still have the three unused cylinders for doors/hatch from this broken ignition key.. Can't the dealer take the key of my choosing, and re-key it to fit the unused locks that I bring with it?

How does that work> bring in the lock with blank key, or can they just re-arrange tumblers to fit pre-existing key?

this lil biddy has already cost me some study time.. gonna have to look at that thing next week after exams finish.. hopefully I won't have forgotten ALL the console wiring..
