On my '89, there was a split nylon bushing right around the shift rod. Then there was a fatter rubber bushing around that. My fat rubber bushing was pretty torn.
Take one of the seats out, that makes it easier to work. Take out the shift lever, & open the top of the shifter box. Pull the shift rod back, so there's room to work towards the front of the box.
The split nylon bushing can be opened enough to put on the shaft. I though it was gonna break but it didn't. It's probably not a good idea to do this one in February.
The fat rubber bushing can (barely) be stretched around the big ring on the aft end of the shift rod. By this time there's grease EVERYWHERE...
