The main purpose is replace some broken connector boots that I have been meaning to address for cosmetic as well to seal up the connectors. One of the main culprits is the TPS in which the connector is vertical and any break in the boot allows water to get into connector well. When I bought the car the prior home was close to the coast and the pins were pretty crusty with corrosion which turned out to be cause of intermittent ignition cutouts....kinda like someone was turning off the key while driving then turning the ignition back on . this problem progressed and as i recall I wrote several posts and later determined that faulty contacts were to blame at the TPS.
I am curious if there is any merit to using a dab of dielectric grease at the connections before snapping the connectors. It certainly improves conductivity but I am not sure if prevents corrosion as a petroleum grease might. what do think? any downsides other than possibly collecting grime?
By the way as you mentioned, Eagleday seems to be a good source for these repair items but I have found everythingto date through the dealer but who knows in the near future so other options are good.
One good thing about purchasing specific parts from the dealer is that SAAB is good about identifying each part and more specifically each housing, pin, and boot for each application so I generally feel that I will have if not the exact replacement then a superceced part that will do the job. Some of these AMP connectors are used in many different applications and makes of cars.
