Thanks for the suggestions guys. Here's a little more info:
8V turbo, correct. Yeah it's automatic but pretty nice otherwise. :)
I recently cleaned the throttle body and air intake plate, so I don't think those are an issue.
The problem doesn't *seem* to be as bad when the tank is full. I'll keep an eye on that. I assume these are the original fuel pumps. I have a basic fuel pressure gauge. Fuel pressure is fine at normal temps at home in the driveway but I've never checked it under driving conditions. I'll have to look into getting one of those fancy pressure gauges. That looks like a good idea. It would be nice to know what the pressure is doing all the time.
I never have any starting problems at all except for when the fuel pump relay went bad. I replaced it just a few months ago. It's one of those weird double relays that also serves as the AC relay IIRC. New ones are NLA. I got a good used one from Tim at East of Sweden. No more starting
problems after that.
Ignition stuff, wires, cap, etc. are all pretty recent. I'm using the Bougicord (sp?) wires. I'll check the hall effect distrib. connection and wires rubbing on stuff.
I regularly check for intake air leaks and I think it's all pretty tight. I'm using a K&N filter and just installed a new cat.
Cooling fan seems to work fine and continues running for a few minutes after shutdown. The car doesn't seem to run unusually hot.
I was reading some old postings and saw where someone suggested that the ignition module can have an overheating problem? Makes some sense since it's right beside the exhaust and turbo. I have a coupla spares I can try. Any opinions on that?
I'm trying to get the A/C working again and I expect the extra heat to compound the hot stall problem, so I'm really hoping I can pin it down. I'll post back if I figure it out.
