First - you can still buy R12 at my area ($65 a pound, takes about 2 pounds). No changing oil, etc. No need to replace hoses unless they have a problem. Second, R12 cools better than R134a. But - you DO have to repair the problem - probably an O-ring.
I suggest taking it to an old-time radiator shop - they usually know how to fix A/C and recharge. Knowledge is better than all the certicicates in the world.
Second - Last resort is Enviro-Safe R12a (or DuraCool, etc.). Easy $50 fix, works fine, like derf says. Vern
