Oddly those thrust bearings don't seem to wear much where they contact the end of the cluster gear. They tend to get a ring cut in them from the rear cluster gear needle bearing which suggests that the bearing may be slightly displaced but not the gear itself. That's what I've seen most of the time. There is the occasional oddball.
