I have an 88 SPG which started pumping coolant out the exhaust on my way to work. I recently (about ten months ago) swapped in an engine out of a 91 turbo since the transmission had failed on the 88 setup.
I just finished pulling the head on the motor in the car, and besides some corrosion in the bores as if it sat for some time with water in the cylinders, it all looks fine. There's no sign of flash damage across the head gasket anywhere, and no visible damage on the head or in the bores. I'm starting to think that there must be a crack in the cylinder somewhere that only opens up when hot.
I'm working with a very limited budget, so what would I need to buy to swap the 88 engine onto the 91 transmission? What gaskets are needed, and is there any other parts I will or might need?
