It was a PITA, but I'm back on the road. Whether I survive the trip remains to be seen. I ended up re-using the inner brake pad (the one with wings that fit into the caliper piston) since there was no chance in hell that the pad carrier/caliper assembly was going to swallow two new pads.
The FrankenSaab stops upon hard braking and that seems to me the most relevant metric. However, I am concerned that I have a "whumpa-whumpa-whumpa" sound from the rear upon deceleration but the source is hard to pin-point from the driver's seat. I suspect it comes from the rebuilt NuGeon caliper but that's only a hunch. The assembly seems pretty wobbly to me-- the slide pins are firmly seated but shimmy in their mounts such that the caliper has WAY more play in the in-out dimension than I suspect is normal. Are the guide sleeves really rubber all the way through?
I'm going to take it for a longer drive (lonely Wisconsin back roads) and then recheck. If I don't post back, well...
