send a personal message to CMyles. He's our resident transmission specialist. I've been inside the cover plates of my transmission lately, and I am not sure of what sort of condition would lead to the 5th gear selector shaft "freezing up" that could be easily remedied. There shouldn't be any need for it to be "lubed", unless you let the oil level in your transmission get dangerously low. That shaft and the 5th gear selector fork (as well as everything else inside the transmission case for that matter), are lubricated by 3.5 quarts of oil that vigorously sloshes around. I can't think of any reason (other than maybe...maybe, the loss of the little plastic propeller on the upper chains sprocket or the small oil catcher that routes oil from the chain compartment back) that could lead to a loss of lubrication in the forward, 5th gear chamber.
I am just taking potshots - send Chris an email. He may not read the forum as regularly as he used to, but he'll get your email.
