Hi All,
Good seeing everyone at Carlisle. So I have an issue i noticed actually a month or so ago. This was after the engine swap I did.
This engine has a freshly cleaned up head, but engine has something like 270K on it. It doesn't leak, it boosts fine. Compression numbers are good. it's not very noisy ( A little noisy in the belt area I think my alternator is going), but on startup I have a noise. I'm running 10W30.
It happens for maybe 2-3 minutes and then goes away. After that there is no knock noise. Sometimes on start up for the two seconds its very noisy.
This noise doesn't sound like a tappet and it's not very loud. It sounds like its coming from the bottom end belly of the whale type knocking. You can't hear it from the interior when idling, just if you put your head down in the engine.
Anyway... and then it goes away.
I think, well I don't know. Is it piston slap or something? A bad rod bearing? I am pretty light on experience with these engines internally, since I have never had crank bearing fail on these. I guess the 270k is a testament to that.
So looking for advise. Some people on the forums say, yeah it's old, a little slap on start up, whatever. Some people say, ruh-roh better pull it.
And I am sorry, I know 'knock' isn't helpful. It really is a knock like tapping on something with a hammer. It's not chain rattlely noise, it's not a noisy injector or stuck tappet from what I can tell.
