93 is a Seiko only year. That picture is of a Seiko, but is subtly different than the one on my 93CS.
The wire that comes off the car goes to a wire that runs into the compressor body. Another wire comes out and runs to the clutch. The electrical thing in the compressor body is a thermal protection switch.
If the wires are really mangled, that might be the problem. Usually, when the compressor doesn't come on, it's because all the refrigerant has leaked out. Check for 12V from the wire on the car side with the car running and the ACC on LO.
