Dead Battery?

I thoroughly enjoy reading this board. I have gained so much insight and knowledge, I just wish I had found it long ago. I have always known that Saabs have personalities of their own. A few months ago I bought Saab #3, and finally put an ad in the paper for my 9000. This morning it told me it isn't going anywhere. Literally. It won't start. I figure it's the battery, the lights on the dash tried to light up a little, and I got half a crank. It started fine on Saturday. The battery is exactly the same age (43 months) and almost the exact mileage as the original one when it died.
I tried to start it again a couple hours later, and got one crank. The voltage read 8.7 (info on the dash). Shouldn't this be enough to start the car? This particular battery, which I got from the dealer, always read 9.0 when started. I thought it was weak from the beginning, but they always told me it was ok. The manual says it should be at least 10.0.
Well, here's my real question. As I recall, Saabs have a somewhat unusual battery. The dealer wants $89 (inc. tax) for a new one, 1 year unlimited warranty, 50 months total prorated. Is this reasonable? We usually get them from the dealer because after a jumpstart it is the most convenient thing to do. But since my AAA expired Sept 1, the car isn't going anywhere. I will be bringing the new battery home myself. Anyone have suggestions as to where to get a reasonable one, fairly easily? Anything special I need to know about installing it?
Thanks,
Sue
