AutoZone, which carries the DuraLast line of batteries. I am a die-hard DieHard (Sears) battery afficionado (sp.). In the past, I would never had even thought of buying my battery from anyone else but Sears.
Unfortunately, my car got stuck as well, while re-fueling at a gas station. Had to have it towed to my Saab dealer since it wasn't giving the usual signs of a dead battery. They were not able to get to it that day, so it was still in the outside lot. Good for me, since I decided to try out the "swap-the-battery-from-my-other-car" idea. To my amazement, it was the battery. Since I only had an AutoZone close by (and it was nearing 7:00 pm), I purchsed one of their batteries. Believe it or not, it looks EXACTLY like a Saab battery. I swear they use the same mold to form the plastic exterior case. I have an oem Saab battery "jacket" (I think it was standard in '98) and it fits perfectly over the new one, as well as the hold-down bracket. In all of my year's of using DieHard's, I've had to succumb to the fact that they would never fit perfectly like the oem batteries did in the engine. But this DuraLast is a spitting-image of the Saab original one.
As it turns out, I was told by AutoZone that the DuraLast and the Interstate batteries are made by the same manufacturer. Whether this is true or not, I have no clue. But I did take a look at Consumer's Report on their issue with car batteries, and they rated the DuraLast as being pretty good.
Not bad, especially since it only cost me $60!
