At one time they were called "APC solenoid," and this was an acronym for Automatic Performance Control, a Saab namesake since about '82. The APC system was Saab's pre-Trionic system for regulating boost. Somewhere along the line this solenoid changed its name to BPC, which I always assumed to mean "Boost Performance Control." Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please.
I've revived two solenoids by spraying a lubricant into the ports like Liquid Wrench with Teflon or Royal Purple spray lube, then slinging out the remainder. WD40 may not be as effective as it is a penetrant, not a lubricant. OTOH, the original solenoid on my present '95 Aero only responded to this treatment for a week at a time, then reverted to its original afflicted state--so it isn't a guaranteed panacea. But at $215 a pop from your friendly Saab dealer and scarce-as-hen's-teeth availability at parts yards, it is worth a try.
