turned out to be the banjo fitting on the fuel line to the fuel rail. It came loose enough to ooze fuel and really smell up the cabin. I don't understand why you would smell it after opening a window but not opening the sunroof; perhaps opening the sunroof causes the odor to be sucked up above you and out. Anyway, look around the engine compartment for any wet spot along the fuel lines, and look around the injectors to see if the seals are leaking on one or more of them. You should look while the system is under pressure, but maybe not while the engine is hot. (Some leaks may not appear until the engine has heated up and all the components have expanded from the heating, however.) Of course, be careful because gasoline vapor will burn more easily than puddles of gas. The vapor evaporating from the puddles is far more likely to ignite than the puddle itself; and once the vapor ignites, the puddle will provide a rich source of vapor as temperatures rise. Good luck!
