Further to posts on this subject (search for "photoresistor").
Mine is a '95 9000 V6 3.0L with dim SCC. Read the other posts on this subject and there was a question about replacing the photoresistor and where to get one and was an old clock one compatible with a "new" digital display one?
I had a donor clock from a long gone 1991 9000S - so nothing to lose. Here goes:
Removed the steel spring clips top and bottom by levering out. Gently bent up plastic tabs (4 No.), put business card strips to keep open and gently prized apart.
Unscrewed the circuit board taking note of location of plastic spacers which fall out and then the multi-connector strip to the LCD display - NOTE THERE IS A SMALL RUBBERY - I GUESS - CONDUCTING CONNECTING STRIP WHICH FALLS OUT. I think this makes the final conducting connection between the PCB and the LCD screen and is thus ESSENTIAL. Anyway - on reassembly it needs to go in BROWN SIDE DOWN. To make this easier, unscrew the white bulb cowling and assemble this connection before trying to reassemble the whole thing.
Take care not to lose the "light pipe" for the photoresistor which is not secured. Unsoldered the red photoresistor and discarded. Soldered in the replacement photoresistor (don't know which way round).
Tested in-situ before full reassembly and hey presto it works! No one more amazed than me.
