Major suspension failure...advice badly need (w/pics) Posted by Porschephile951 [Email] (#2169) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Porschephile951) on Sun, 29 Apr 2007 17:35:38 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I've been hearing clunking noises coming from the rear of the car, and I figured it was just the result of some worn out bushings or perhaps brake pads without clips. I however noticed that the wheel arches on both sides had rub marks from what could only have been the tire, despite the several centimeter gap between them. I had my father slowly push the car backwards and pull up on the parking brake...to my absolute astonishment I saw the entire axle, hub, and panhard assembly shift like crazy.
Here are some pictures. You can see that the chassis metal that connects the rear most suspenion link is completely disintigrated and the arms are detatched from the body; they float freely allowing the rear suspension to move all o're the place.

I don't recall if HTML works in here, so here are links as well.

I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue. The best method to fix it appears to be to use the hatch floor metal which is uncorroded and perhaps some long, high-grade bolts or some type of metal block to act as a spacer.
Any advice on this issue?
