Interesting emissions story

I have posted several times regarding a 1993CSE non-turbo that I purchased and was trying to bring back to life. The gas tank straps had rusted and broken, the exhaust from cat back was missing, the passenger side rear wheel was frozen, the left front rotor had rusted into 2 pieces, and the throttle lever wouldn't budge. It took me 3 trips to put it into driveable condition to make the 45 min trip home. Upon arrival I discovered a gas leak at the filter connection so I was down a couple of days waiting on the filter. Once I got that resolved I drove it to try to get as much of the old gas out of it as possible. I only had 10 days to get the emissions test completed or I would have to get another 10 day tag.(PITA in CT)On my last day I put in $20 of mid grade gas to add to the 1/4 tank of old gas and went for the test. I had also replaced the plugs and the air cleaner. My emissions results were as good or better than any car I have ever had tested. The car did not even run poorly while I was burning the 2 year old gas. How can you figure that??
