1997 9k Aero

Tonight on the way home the lights started oscillating between bright and dim. The volt meter was going between 12.4 and 13.9. Then as I pull up to my house, the battery dash light comes on and the volt meter starts reading under 12V.

I still have a belt, and I went through the car about 9 months ago and regrounded every thing I could reasonably get to so I'm thinking voltage regulator or alternator? What do you think? Is the VR in the alt on the 97 9k? How bad a job is this?

As always any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
