I really dont like revving it out, with the long gearing, its prob in the 3-4k range at autocross. And most of the time I shift at 2-2.5k out on the roads. Every one in a while I'll wind it up to 4k on an entrance ramp though, its always warm by that point though.
My initial thoughts are that the balance shaft chain guide is the one that broke and that the tensioner made the oil pressure drop, but not enough to trigger the light. The car was driven a few miles home knocking, mostly because I had no idea it was internal. It sounded like the cat stay bracket had come loose, something it had done before and sounds nearly exactly the same. Either way, the rod bearings looked fine, and I think the engine will be fine, the only real question I have left is about the trust washers and where they are located.
Here is the beast in question, I love the car. For the most part its been a damn good car, and at 165k, I think is still in damn good shape. When I get this engine put back together, I plan to finish going over the suspension, and put poly swaybar bushings to replace the prob 15 year old rubber ones it has now. I also am planning to clay and compound the paint, and remove the seats and shampoo all the carpet.
