It's been 3 years but I have finally found the solution!!!!! If anyone is still interested. :)
The car has not been used for almost three years, I had to give up replacing components, it was killing my wallet. So it sat in my back yard taunting me!
I started the car for the first time since last summer, it went the first try. After it warmed to operating temp it resumed it old ways.. idling poorly with black smoke from the exhaust, no power, etc. So I shut it off and started to fix minor things in preparation for selling it.
The door ajar indicator for rear door (drivers side) was on, even with the door closed, so I pulled the switch at the door and cleaned a little rust from it so it would ground better. It didn't help.
I decided to clean the switch on drivers door, it had even more rust. I replaced the the rusted hold down screw (which is the ground for the switch also) and drilled a new hole for it.
I started the car again, the light was still on.
Something was different though.. the car was running smoothly..no smoke whatsoever..vacuum was back to normal.
I CANNOT BELIEVE IT, the car runs perfectly, after all I went through to diagnose this problem, the solution was so simple but I never would have thought of it.. I almost feel like lighting it on fire or committing myself to the funny farm!
Thanks to all who tried to help!
