Ok, so I went back and did some more testing, and my initial observations appear to have been wrong.
As I mentioned before, there's a grinding noise when you select any gear, then let the clutch out. But, I discovered that when I put the car in neutral, then let out the clutch, I STILL got the grinding noise. Put the clutch in, and the noise goes away.
Also, the pitch of the grinding correlates to engine speed, and does not vary depending upon the selected gear.
So, given that, it sounds most likely that I lost the input shaft or something similar.
