while at the same time the dash is showing 9.6 . Clearly the battery is not on the upside of its life, but I'm not convinced that alone will correct it. I did find a rebuilder about 50 miles from here, who told me that the alternator either works or it doesn't, which makes me more willing to go after the voltage regulator first, rather than invest in a alternator right now. (I am thinking of pulling a alternator from the pick n' pull, and sending it to the rebuilder for a freshening.....)
Ray, the no-start was of the first variety you described......the battery is a Durolast rated at 700 amps, which I bought because I'd always had good luck with DieHards, and I understand they are the same. When I started this the day I had the no-start, autozone tested it ok, which is why I've been waiting (with my power pack in the trunk.....) to establish a firm blame. Goldwing is close to me, but they've gotten so pricey ( $135.00) for an alternator, that I'd get a re-man from eeuroparts ( $205.00 +core) before I got one of theirs off the wrecked shelf. They will provide another upon failure within a year, but that's just a bet on their part, not because of any due dilligence regarding the part.
