This happens to my 1998 on seasonal tire change over. I've always attributed it to the rust on the center hub and the wheel center. My wheels are tough to remove if I don't wire brush and grease these surfaces. If crud builds up, I assume the wheel isn't properly seated and I have to retourque several times over the first few hundred miles. Just had a similar problem with my 1989 900.
