Check the ground connection located near the left front speaker. I think you have to remove a small torx screw to remove the speaker grille, then you will see the ground strap. I don't know which circuits it grounds, but it is a good place to start.
You can download wiring diagrams at the link below. Start with the diagram called "Ground Distribution Circuit". It identifies all ground locations for the '97 model year.
Who knows how many potential gremlins you will kill as you hunt down this one. Good luck!
