No, this is what happens as these awesome cars age. That's what has to be replaced. The only other solution is an app on your phone. Search your app store. There are free ones out there that work great. One even has a heads-up display that works great on your windshield at night. A friend of mine with a 98 CSE custom made a mount for his I-phone right in front of the speedo and seems fine with that rather than to repair. I have a 97 CSE that hasn't given up yet on the speedo and it has over 200K on it. Driving on borrowed time.
My son's 88 turbo has a jumpy needle and doesn't work at all and uses an app on his Android to get the heads up - pretty nice. It is called Ulysse Speedometer. Search for it. I'm not sure avail for I-phone but definitely for Android. So it had the regular display or choose the HUD option for heads up when you touch the screen. Quite clever and has a large display too! Not too sure of how it works in day time - haven't seen that yet but definitely awesome for night! In fact this is so good I think I'll post this out there for everyone since everyone's speedo is probably giving up now as these cars get older by the minute!
