the broken door lock cylinder bell crank! Broken off clean at the top stud! Therefore the door was LOCKED, even tho the key was turning, the lock mechanism in the door was still locked.
Got the drivers door panel removed WITH the seat installed….tricky but doable. The courtesy light was already cracked at the screw and came apart easily. A good bit of twisting is required, but the door inside panel was able to be fished up and out, once the front pull latch (inside) was taken loose of it's 2 mounting screws. With the door panel removed, I was able to jimmy the door striker latch and get the door open.
The outside door handle is AOK…..pot metal lever and roller are fine.
The little stinking bell crank (with ball ends) is broken off cleanly right at the lock. It is a quite small stud, I am not sure it can be replaced. The door latch mechanism is stiff, but I think with some liberal oil/greaselube it will actuate just fine. I did try turning the key, and my central locking does not fire at all from the drivers door lock cylinder. I sprayed some penetrating oil in the key so perhaps I have flooded the contacts. I'll try and blow it out, but perhaps it is toast.
I'm going to presume that I might not be able to repair this OE lock cylinder and need a substitute. I'm going to be stuck with 2 keys….one door and one ignition, correct?
