I had a '95 9000 Aero, and at about 220k miles the head gasket started to go. But before all that, my questions to you are how many miles do you have on the car (assuming it's the original engine), and are you sure it's not the valve cover gasket? Are you losing coolant? Do you have white smoke from the exhaust (sign of it burning coolant)? In my experience with my Aero, you can go for perhaps several thousand miles with the head gasket starting to go. This, however, is not wise, as once the head gasket really starts to let go, it goes in a big fashion. The head retorque on your Viggen was probably successful because the car is substantially newer. If you're mechanically inclined, you can do the head gasket yourself (write-ups on Townsend website and FixMySaab.com). It's still going to cost you some money (getting the cylinder head serviced) in parts as well as a good chunk of your time.
