Why I really love my insurance company

Sad but true, nobody wanted to buy Sven, my 1990 9000S automatic with 188k miles when I advertised at £1,000/$1,450, so he mostly sat in the drive for six months. Second-hand cars are very hard to sell in the UK now, and it looked as though he would go to the breakers, for £500 if I was lucky. Then I decided to re-insure him for use on local trips before (joke) he deteriorated. Did this on the phone to my broker on a Tuesday: no proposal form filled in, not even a temporary cover note, and it was a company I'd never used before (Groupama) but they said I could drive the car.
On the Thursday, 50 miles later, driving along and saw lots of smoke from the engine compartment. Stopped quickly and put it out. Things did not look good under there. Called for a tow to Avon Saab Centre.
Phoned insurance broker expecting very little: however, I filled in the proposal form and sent off detailed service records and photographs. After a two-hour inspection they wrote poor old Sven off and then asked me, almost apologetically, if I would agree to a valuation of £1,850/$2,680! Got the cheque yesterday. So there really is a God...
