I was a 1991 5 door 9000T owner (196K before a trailer on a truck totaled it!)
I replaced it with a 93 CD with 115,000 I bought via my Indy who reconditions cars.
Sold it for $6500 to compensate for an anticipated TCS problem.....and I had the same trepidation and concerns as you....but the price was right....so I went for it.
Last winter, I experienced my first TCS problem....after a warm start, it just hit....nothing prompted it. I dealt with it....fact is, with a one-ton foot, you can still drive the car....just no where near easily....and episodes never lasted long.....but they became more frequent (as in every time I stopped and restarted the car). With winter coming (and now here) it was time to make a decision. Apparently, the there After market TCS compnent with gold contacts....the result is no corrosion and mis-performance. Winter is here (3 feet of snow so far!) and, in the face of Saab enthusiasts who cry foul...TCS DOES serve its purpose on snowy icy roads.
$1500 was well worth the peace of mind and security!
