My 95 9000 Aero just did the same thing. First time the heat went on
for the winter season,I got a slight whiff of coolant. No sign of
leakage and the system had been flushed on the Saab schedule.

I siphoned about a half pint of the existing fluid out and added a half a bottle of Barrs leak before a road trip (everything in haste...). Cycled the heat on and off a little over a good day's drive. Voila - no more smell.

Now to flush the system again and refill *with* Barrs added as recommended
